Above Normal Temps Continue

Today will be ridiculously warm once again here in southeastern New Mexico. We can expect to see our afternoon high temperatures climb up into the middle to upper 70's. The low-mid 70's are expected for Saturday. Normals for this time of the year are in the upper 50's to near 60.

Upper level ridging overhead, combined with a very dry northwesterly flow aloft, will continue the current dry pattern over the area for the next several days. A short wave trough of low pressure will zip by to our north on Saturday, and this will send a dry cold front southward into the area Saturday.

Gusty northerly winds will accompany the frontal passage Saturday. Patches of blowing dust may also occur, especially near freshly plowed or open fields and farmland. Sunday will be cooler with highs in the 50's. Actually these temperatures will be close to normal for this time of the year.

Christmas is two weeks away...so is there any hope whatsoever of us getting a break from the warm and dry weather? Maybe, the latest GFS computer model runs are hinting at a possible pattern change around Christmas.

A great deal of caution is needed here folks, I don't put much stock in the model forecasts two weeks out, if fact they are seldom right this far out. But for all of us snow lovers, anything even remotely hinting at a pattern change is welcome news, so I'll keep you updated on this.

The Truth Is Stranger Than Fiction!
