How Cold Will It Get With This Arctic Airmass?

Feb 18, 2022. Church Mountain.  Southeast Of Carrizozo, NM. RTMA Temperatures. (At 2:30 PM MST Tuesday). RTMA Apparent (Wind Chill) Temperatures. (At 2:30 PM MST Tuesday). GFS Temperature Anomalies. (At 11 AM MST Tuesday). Amazing Temperature Contrasts! As of 2:30 PM MST this Tuesday afternoon an amazing temperature contrast existed across the arctic cold front draped across the region. Temperatures ranged from 100ºF at Zapata, Texas located in the upper Rio Grande Valley of far south Texas to -10ºF in northern North Dakota where wind chill values are down to -35ºF . That's a difference in actual temperatures of 110-degrees, factor in the wind chill and that's 135-degrees! Temperatures this afternoon in the heart of the coldest air are running some 30-degrees to 40-degrees below normal. Surface Map Forecast. Turning Much Colder Tonight. Strong southwesterly winds and pockets of blowing dust occurred across Southeastern New Mexico Wednesday., February 16, 2022. Peak wind gusts locally include 63 mph at the Buck Mountain Personal Weather Station (PWS-10,676') west-northwest of Ruidoso, 62 mph at Guadalupe Pass (Guadalupe Mtn's National Park), 57 mph in Jal (Personal Weather Station), a gust to 55 mph at the Paduca Raws near the WIPP site southeast of Carlsbad, 54 mph at the Bat Draw Raws at Carlsbad Caverns, 53 mph at the Roswell Airport, and 51 mph at the Artesia Airport. A gust to 52 mph was clocked at the Carlsbad Airport early Thursday morning. Although it was windy it was far from being one of our really bad wind and dust storms that are common this time of the year.
