A blinding dust storm with brown out conditions reportedly contributed to a massive pile up (18+ vehicles involved) in Glassock County on Hwy 137 southeast of Midland yesterday afternoon.

Snowfall totals over the Sacramento mountains from this latest winter storm includes 4.5" at the Cloudcroft CoCoRaHS Station located 2.3 miles south of town. 1.8" at the CoCoRaHS Station located 1.8 miles southwest of town. And 2.2" at the CoCoRaHS Station located 5.8 miles east-northeast of La Luz.
Scattered power outages occured in the Carlsbad and Loving areas Thursday afternoon with several reports of downed utility and power lines from the high winds. A Dust Storm Warning was issued for far southeastern Eddy County, Lea County, and much of the Permian Basin.
The Cloudcroft National Weather Service (NWS) Climate Co-Op Station measured 4.5" of new snowfall bringing their seasonal total (Oct 1st - March 3rd) to 58.1".
After round after round potent winter storms hammering the area our weather will calm down for the near term. The exception being on Sunday when a disturbance to our northwest passes by kicking up the winds. Westerly winds will be the strongest across the Capitan, Sacramento, and Guadalupe mountains with guts in the 50 mph range...perhaps a little higher.
Our next weather event to impact our neck of the woods comes in the middle to the end of next week when a modified arctic cold front pushes south into the eastern and southeastern plains, and another winter storm heads out way. Our high temperatures ahead of the modified arctic cold front will climb up to near 80ยบ Tuesday and Wednesday over the southeastern plains.
