Historic Tornado Outbreak In Arizona Today!

Today's outbreak of severe weather in Arizona was historical to say the least. The Flagstaff NWS Office issued 3 tornado warnings yesterday, 28 (at last count) today. That is simply unheard of for a western state! 28 tornado warnings in a year is unheard of, not just for Arizona, but for most western states. Not including Colorado, or maybe New Mexico.

The last time the state of Arizona had anything even close to today's outbreak was on Oct 3, 1968. The US Forest Service is reporting that one of the tornadoes left a damage path in the mountains, through the forest, 15 miles long!

Here is a video of some of the damage in
Bellemont, AZ which is located just WNW of Flagstaff (in the mountains by the way, nearly 7,000' in elevation).

Tornadoes were on the ground as early as 5:30 AM MST, with temps in the 40's & 50's. One of the tornadoes missed the Flagstaff NWS Forecast Office by only 1/4 of a mile.

In Bellemont, AZ 200 homes were damaged, 33 inhabitable. Seven people were injured. 28 cars of a parked freight train were derailed, and numerous vehicles overturned. Many trees in the nearby forest were knocked down.

Video of the Bellemont, AZ tornado popping power lines & transformers this morning. WOW!
