April 29, 2026.  Altocumulus Standing Lenticular Clouds. Streaming Northeast Off Of The Guadalupe Mountains. A backdoor cold front lies draped across the area this afternoon. Cooler temps overspread the area behind the front with the coolest highs in the 50s across northern and northeastern New Mexico. Highs across southeastern New Mexico ranged from near 70 in the Roswell area to the low-mid 80s in the Carlsbad area.  A reinforcing shot of cooler and more moist air will overspread the eastern half of the state on Thursday. Highs on Thursday will range from near 50 in the northeastern plains, near 60 across the eastern plains, and the 70s in southeastern New Mexico.  Friday will be a chilly, cloudy to overcast, and dreary day across much of the state from the central mountain chain eastward, with highs mostly in the 40's and 50's. April 13, 2026. Carlsbad, New Mexico. Altocumulus Standing Lenticular Clouds. Yesterday turned out to be just about as ugly as was forecast weather-wise in New Mexico. The highest wind gust I could find was 88 mph recorded at the San Augustin Raws along US Hwy 70 east of Las Cruces in the Organ Mountains. April 25, 2026. Carlsbad, New Mexico. Altocumulus Standing Lenticular Clouds. New Mexico's weather today into Tuesday will be on the ugly side, especially today. Today's themes include damaging winds, widespread blowing dust, and critically dangerous to extremely critically dangerous fire weather conditions.  Southwest to west winds are forecast to become sustained at 30 to 40 mph with gusts near 60 mph over the central mountain chain and eastern New Mexico.  High Wind Warnings and Wind Advisories remain in effect for much of the state through this evening. Southwest to west winds are forecast to become sustained at 25-35 mph with gusts near 55 mph in the Wind Advisory areas. A High Wind Warning remains in effect for the Guadalupe and Delaware Mountains of Eddy and Culberson Counties through 9 PM MDT Monday evening. April 21, 2026. High-Based Dry T-Storm. Looking North From The Carlsbad Truck Bypass. New Mexico's fire weather season is upon us, and we already have a couple of fires active across the state. The Tusas fire near Sapello, NM, in San Miguel County, is the largest. See the Watch Duty Map link below (via my blog post link) to view all current fire activity in the state. The Otero County Electric Cooperative has cut power to some residents in the Alto area north of Ruidoso as a precaution due to the Red Flag Warning and high winds. However, we have entered neutral El Niño conditions with some forecasts indicating that  El Niño  may return by June. January 30, 2026. Devon Energy Yard - In Atoka, South Of Artesia. New All-Time New Mexico March 2026 Daily/Monthly Record High Temperatures.  New Mexico saw its hottest March on record (135 years of records). A phenomenal total of 141 new all-time March record high temperatures were broken in the state. With another 29 all-time monthly record highs tied. During this past March, there were 586 new daily record high temperatures that were set, with another 59 daily records tied.  There are simply far too many records set during this past March for me to list them in this blog post, so click on the link above to view them. A March to remember for sure!  Many of these new all-time monthly records across the state were set, breaking previous all-time records going back to at least 1907, and then a few days later, those new records were broken.  The Carlsbad Airport ASOS set an amazing all-time March record high of 103 on the 26th, which beat the previous records of 100 on...

April 9, 2026. Virga North Of Brantley Lake.  A deep early spring mid-upper level closed low was parked just off the northwestern coast of California late this afternoon. It will kick out a series of disturbances that will rotate northeast across the state tonight into Sunday. This, with strengthening southwesterly winds aloft, will add instability to the atmosphere tonight into Sunday.  The dryline has backed west into the Pecos Valley the past couple of mornings, producing low clouds and dew point temperatures in the 50s. It will back westward up against the central mountain chain of the state tonight into Saturday. Increasing low-level moisture in the return flow upon southeasterly winds will advect lots of moisture east of the dryline tonight and Saturday. Low clouds and areas of fog will be possible late tonight into Saturday morning.  As of 5 PM MDT this Friday afternoon, several severe thunderstorms have popped up over eastern New Mexico near Tucumcari and Clovis. ...

February 7, 2026. Guadalupe Mountains.  A few reporting stations picked up some decent rainfall across the state and in the Sacramento mountains from our last storm. The Cloudcroft Climate COOP Station reported .44", and the Ruidoso NWS Climate COOP Station reported .20". A PWS (Pierce Canyon) south of Cloudcroft measured .69", a PWS in Cloudcroft (KNMCLOUD 57) .59", and the Big Dipper Cabin PWS west of Mayhill measured .50". A PWS in Alto north of Ruidoso measured .32", and a PWS in Timberon measured .14".  Several northern New Mexico reporting stations picked up over three-quarters of an inch of rainfall.
