(As Of 6 AM MDT Sunday, June 12, 2022).
(June 1 - June 13, 2022).
Beneficial rainfall has fallen in a few areas over the past couple of weeks. Most notably far Southeastern New Mexico, specifically central and southern Lea County. As well as parts of Northeastern New Mexico, East-Central New Mexico, and near Alamogordo in the Tularosa Basin.
In spite of the recent rainfall New Mexico and the surrounding area remains locked in a severe drought with many areas of the state in the exceptional category.
6-10 Day.
(Today - Monday, June 20, 2022).
Some Relief Coming.
Computer forecast models are indicating that some relief from our drought and excessive heat is on the way for the Land of Enchantment. The recent rainfall over parts of New Mexico and West Texas over the past several weeks have been mostly associated with the dryline and cold frontal passages.
There are indications that our annual Monsoon will kick off at the end of this week. Current forecasts call for the best chances for measurable rainfall to occur from the northern mountains southward through the south-central mountains and then west of this area.
Meaning that the Sacramento and Capitan mountains stand a fairly decent chance of getting wet over the next week to ten days. Current forecasts call for scattered thunderstorms to begin ramping up across the Sac's on Thursday and continuing into next weekend.

Not so much however for the eastern one-third of the state including the Southeastern Plains. Not to say that we will be totally left out but we won't have the widespread coverage and rainfall totals currently forecast for the areas mentioned above. We should drop out of the 100's for afternoon highs starting Thursday. Until then we continue to bake.
