Saturday, Nov 2nd, 2024 Eddy County Hailstorm - Our Next Winter Storm Arrives This Weekend.

November 2, 2024.
1 Mile NW Of Seven Rivers, NM.
Hail, Hail Drifts, And Hail Fog On White Pine Rd.

A severe thunderstorm (rare for November) dropped golf ball to tennis ball size hail in the Seven Rivers and Lakewood areas on Saturday, November 2, 2024. I took my photos nearly an hour after the storm had ended. Even so, I still picked up numerous golf ball to hen egg size hailstones in the area. My brother measured 1.30" of rain along with hen egg-sized hail at his ranch 2 miles north of Lakewood.

Moderate To Heavy Rain Possible
Over Southern/Eastern/Southeastern New Mexico.

Forecast models disagree among themselves somewhat on the evolution and timing of our next winter storm to affect the state beginning this weekend. But overall it appears that moderate to locally heavy lowland rains may fall over roughly the southern one-half of the state. When all is said and done rainfall totals could end up in the .50" to 1.50" range. A few spots may even get a little more than this. An isolated thunderstorm or two may accompany the rain in a few areas.

The mountains across western, southern, and central New Mexico could see a heavy wet snow with totals of 4" to 6" above the 8,000' to 9,000' elevations. Rain and snow may start as early as Saturday night and continue into Monday before the storm pulls away to the northeast. Gusty southwesterly winds at the higher elevations may produce areas of blowing and drifting snow generally above 9,000'.

A stronger and colder winter storm could drop more widespread snowfall across the state Tuesday night into Thursday with some lower elevations possibly getting in on the action.
