Record Lows & Snowfall - When Will The Next Winter Storm Be?

Snow Drifts From Plowing.
A Week After The Beginning Of The Winter Storm.
A number of new daily record low temperatures, record low maximum temperatures, and daily snowfall records were set by our recent winter storm.
Pasamonte west of Clayton in northeastern New Mexico broke their previous record low of -5F set on January 26, 1948, with -13F.
Roswell's -6F blew their previous daily record low of 11F on January 26, 1966, out of the water with -6F.
Artesia's -6F beat their previous record of 9 set on January 27, 1928. Other daily record low, daily record low maximum temperatures, and daily record snowfall totals are listed below.
Here in Carlsbad, I recorded a low of 2F on my Davis Vantage Pro2 Plut Wireless PWS on the morning of the 26th. The Carlsbad Airport ASOS stopped reporting during the storm so I don't have their low temperature.
A strong temperature inversion trapped cold modified arctic air near the surface across the Pecos Valley last weekend and the first of this week. Lingering snow cover helped to keep our afternoon high temperatures colder here in the Pecos Valley than surround areas. Go east to the Caprock or west to the Guadalupe, Sacramento, and Capitan Mountains, and temperatures rapidly warmed once you got out of the Pecos Valley.
Our next weather maker will come in the form of a cut-off low that is forecast by the models to be centered near the central Baja Spur by Sunday. How far south of the area it tracks is questionable and will have a bearing on how much rain it produces across the region.
Any snow that falls from this system across the Sacramento Mountains Saturday into Tuesday will likely be above 7,000 and light amounts at that. Snow levels across western and northern New Mexico will lower by the end of next week as a stronger closed mid-upper level low moves toward the state. Lots of uncertainties at this point on how much of an impact this winter storm will have.
