Spring like temperatures will greet us today on this first day of the meteorological spring 2019. Although it will be warmer than normal its not likely that any new daily record high temperatures will be established. Forecast highs across Southeastern New Mexico and nearby West Texas will range from the upper 70's to the low 80's. These highs will average some 15ºF above normal for the date today and Saturday.

Sunday March 3rd, 2019.

Sunday will be a transition day as a strong late winter-like arctic cold front knocks on our back door. How warm Sunday afternoon will be depends on how far south and west the arctic air mass manages to push. If the cold front stalls to our north and east we could easily be a little warmer than is currently being forecast. Or if the cold front arrives earlier than current thinking it could just as easily be much colder than what is currently forecast for the local area.

Many fruit trees in the Pecos Valley and other local areas have bloomed out beautifully. Take your photos and remember them because come Monday and Tuesday mornings a killing freeze will end that. This has happened so many times in my lifetime.
