Cannon AFB (KFDX) Radar Outage

Updated 10/01/2025 11am The Cannon Air Force Base (KFDX) WSR-88D will remain inoperable for an extended period due to a hardware failure at the site. Parts have been ordered. There is currently no estimate on when the radar will return to service. KFDX radar is the only radar coverage for portions of eastern New Mexico. However, you may find KPUX, KAMA, KLBB, and KMAF radars useful. If you have questions or concerns, please contact Cannon AFB Public Affairs at 575-784-4131.

High Wind Warning & Wind Advisory.

Image
Thanksgiving Day At The Beach In Carlsbad, NM. Wind Advisory For Eddy Co Today. Another windy day is on tap for the area today, as an upper level trough of low pressure swings eastward across the state. Strong winds aloft will once again mix down to the surface. A Wind Advisory has been issued for Eddy County. Westerly winds sustained at 25-35 mph with gusts near 45 mph are expected today. A High Wind Warning is in effect for the Guadalupe Mountains for today. Westerly winds sustained at 35-50 mph with gusts near 70 mph are expected today.  These high winds will also kick up areas of blowing dust across parts of SE NM today. Sudden drops in the visibility with little or no advanced warning will be possible, especially near open or freshly plowed fields and farmlands, lots, and construction sites, and other normally dust prone areas.  A Pacific cold front moved into the area last night, therefore today will be much cooler with afternoon high temps only in the low 50's...
