Cannon AFB (KFDX) Radar Outage

Updated 10/01/2025 11am The Cannon Air Force Base (KFDX) WSR-88D will remain inoperable for an extended period due to a hardware failure at the site. Parts have been ordered. There is currently no estimate on when the radar will return to service. KFDX radar is the only radar coverage for portions of eastern New Mexico. However, you may find KPUX, KAMA, KLBB, and KMAF radars useful. If you have questions or concerns, please contact Cannon AFB Public Affairs at 575-784-4131.

Suprise - It's Snowing In The Sacramento Mountains.

Valid At 9 AM MST Monday Morning.

Where Did That Come From?

Snowing hard at Ski Apache as of 4:39 PM MST this Sunday afternoon with a temperature of 23ºF.
A few snow flurries are falling in Ruidoso with a temperature of 26ºF.
Cloudcroft is partly cloudy with a temp of 25ºF.
A weak upper-level disturbance was sinking southward through southwestern New Mexico as of 4:45 PM MST. Looking at satellite and available radar images, plus local webcams shows that snow has developed over parts of the Sacramento mountains. The Cannon AFB Radar is down again so there may be more snow falling than currently shown.
I think that this is going to be one of those surprise storms that hits quick and is over by Monday morning. Although not officially forecast I think it's possible to see accumulating snow tonight in the Sac's (already happening at Ski Apache). Maybe a couple of inches in the heavier snow showers.
A few rain showers could change over to snow showers across the Southeastern Plains later tonight as well but as of now, I don't see any accumulating snowfall. But then again this afternoon's developing storm wasn't in the forecasts earlier either.
You gotta love New Mexico's weather!

The Truth Is Stranger Than Fiction!
