Roswell - Consecutive Hours Below Freezing.
Cooler temperatures began to ooze into northeast New Mexico late on February 1st, but on February 2nd, a much colder arctic airmass quickly pushed southward through the eastern plains and westward through the gaps of the Central Mountain Chain. Meanwhile, a storm system was also crossing the state blanketing the area with widespread significant snow. Those snow totals can be found here. The combination of much colder air invading the state and fresh snow cover resulted in a prolonged period of sub-freezing temperatures. Dangerously cold wind chills were also noted across portions of northern and eastern New Mexico during the early morning hours of February 4th. Interestingly, this occurred almost exactly one year after the deep freeze of February 2021. The graphs below note the consecutive hours below freezing for select central and eastern New Mexico locations through February 4th. Wind chill is also plotted where applicable. Though for most locations, the duration of consecutive hours at or below freezing was not as long as last year, it was still impactful. Note: Those locations that had not yet warmed above freezing will likely do so on Saturday, February 5th and these graphs will be updated next week. Click on any graph for a larger view.

Just a tad chilly this morning. As of 4 PM MST.
Locally a Personal Weather Station (PWS) located at Grindstone Lake near Ruidoso is reported a low temp of -8ºF, as is White Mountain Meadows (PWS) near Ruidoso.
A Personal Weather Station (PWS) Pinehurst located west of Sacramento also reported a low of -8ºF.
Bell Canyon (PWS) northwest of Mayhill is also reported a low of -8ºF.
A Personal Weather Station in Timberon is reported a low of -7ºF.
A Personal Weather Station southwest of Cloudcroft in Pierce Canyon reported a low of -4ºF.
A Personal Weather Station located northeast of Pinon (Hibbard) reported a low of -4ºF.
The Cloudcroft Climate Co-Op Station reported a low of -2ºF.
A Personal Weather Station located in High Rolls reported a low of -1ºF.
A Personal Weather Station in Cloudcroft is reporting a low of 1ºF.
A couple of Personal Weather Stations located in north Roswell are reported lows of 1ºF.
Single-digit lows so far are being reported at the Roswell, Artesia, and Hobbs Airports. Here in Carlsbad, I dropped down to 8ºF. The Carlsbad Airport reported 2ºF.
If that is not cold enough for you then how about Angel Fire (near Eagle Nest Lake) in northern New Mexico with a low so far of -30ºF. The nearby Eagle Nest NWS Climate Co-Op Station won the cold award with their morning low of -35ºF.
