Signs Of Spring.

Image
Spring is trying its hardest to return to southeastern New Mexico. Some of the signs of the times include  a hazy moon-rise Friday night that turned the moon orange, caused by a decent southeasterly low-level upslope flow from the from the Gulf of Mexico, to today's high based thunderstorms over Guadalupe Peak, and this guy sneaking across Church Street in Carlsbad this morning. Apparently Mr. Bullsnake read the "No Parking, Standing, Or Stopping Sign" and kept on trucking into the weeds.  Today's crop of thunderstorms produced .23" at the Bowl Raws, .20" at the Pinery Raws, and .02" at the Dog Canyon Raws. It wasn't much but it least it was something. The Truth Is Stranger Than Fiction!   My Web Page Is Best Viewed With Google Chrome.

Current Drought Status.

Image
Maps Are Courtesy Of The Climate Prediction Center. I don't see much hope for any meaningful rainfall for the local area anytime soon in the long range outlooks. The latest ENSO Advisory calls for Neutral conditions across the Pacific Ocean through the summer. So unless we see a significant change in the current upper air pattern, it looks like the current drought will persist into the early part of the summer. Short Term Relief Coming? Both the U.S. GFS, and the European (ECMWF) models are forecasting some precipitation for the area over the next week to ten days. Time will tell if this pans out...hopefully so.
