A Little Cooler Today & Thursday.

Today.

Cold Front This Morning Brings Cooler Temps.

Another warm fall afternoon dominated our weather yesterday. High temps ranged from 73 at the Carlsbad Airport, to 72 at the Roswell and Artesia Airports, and 70 at the Hobbs Airport. My high here at the house in Carlsbad was 74.

A cold front was working its way south through the area this morning. Cooler temps will be on tap today and tomorrow. Our highs today will generally be in the mid 60's here in SE NM. Ruidoso is expecting an afternoon high of 53, while Cloudcroft might reach 50.

It will be a little colder tomorrow morning than it has been over the past several mornings, with our low temperatures dipping down into the upper 20's to near 30. As is usually the case, a few of the normally colder spots may end up in the mid 20's. Our afternoon highs forecast for tomorrow generally will be in the low 60's.

Outlook For The Weekend.

Valid At 18Z/11 AM MST Sat Nov 19, 2011.

A fast moving short wave trough of low pressure is forecast to move across northern New Mexico and southern Colorado on Saturday. As this next upper-level storm approaches the area, we will see a quick warm-up Friday into Sunday. Our highs will climb back up into the 75-80 degree range all three days. A few spots will likely reach the low 80's. Gusty southwesterly winds will also kick up this weekend.

Bitterly cold arctic air will invade the northern border states by
this weekend. Overnight lows are forecast to dip below zero
by Saturday morning, with the afternoon highs struggling to
climb out of the teens. This is the first slug of the bitterly cold
arctic chill, and additional outbreaks will deepen across Alaska
next week.

Bitterly Cold Arctic Air Continues To Deepen Across Alaska.
