Cannon AFB (KFDX) Radar Outage

Updated 10/01/2025 11am The Cannon Air Force Base (KFDX) WSR-88D will remain inoperable for an extended period due to a hardware failure at the site. Parts have been ordered. There is currently no estimate on when the radar will return to service. KFDX radar is the only radar coverage for portions of eastern New Mexico. However, you may find KPUX, KAMA, KLBB, and KMAF radars useful. If you have questions or concerns, please contact Cannon AFB Public Affairs at 575-784-4131.

Blog Updated @ 2:15 PM MDT Sunday, June 12, 2016.  West Texas MCS Overnight Produces Lots Of Lightning Strikes. 24-Hour Lightning Strike Density As Of 8 AM MDT This Morning. Note: The Midland NWS Office reported in their Area Forecast Discussion (AFD) this morning that there were over 5,000 lightning strikes in the Permian Basin between midnight CDT last night and 4:45 AM CDT this morning. They also picked up 2.47" of rain overnight at their office.   Law Enforcement also reported golf ball size hail 8 miles southeast of Lovington, and a power pole blown down at this location at 5:52 MDT yesterday evening during a Severe Thunderstorm in Lea County.  Heavy Rain Falls Across Parts Of West Texas.  Radar Estimated 24-Hour  Rainfall Totals As Of  6 AM MDT This Morning.
