Many All-Time March Record High Temps To Be Shattered Thursday Into Sunday!
Dusty Sunrise - Hobbs, NM.
A massive dome of mid and high-level high pressure is forecast to set up over southern California and Arizona today through the weekend. Heights, or a measure of atmospheric pressure aloft, are forecast to be near record levels with this abnormally and unusually strong high-pressure dome. Sinking air beneath this dome of high pressure will be compressed and warmed. Lee side troughing along and east of New Mexico's central mountain chain will also cause compressional heating. Dry downslopping southwesterly winds will add to the mix.
A historic heatwave is forecast to break out over the southern half of Arizona, southern Nevada, and the southern and southwestern areas of California, from Thursday into Sunday. Daily record high temperatures and some all-time March record high temperatures are forecast to be broken. Forecast highs range from near 100 to near 110.
New Mexico will not escape this insane heatwave, and many daily and even some March all-time record high temperatures will be tied or broken. Beginning Thursday, continuing into at least Sunday. This will be a historic event for us as well. Many of us will be telling our grandkids about this upcoming "Historic March Heatwave!"
Forecast high temps for most of the lower elevations of the state on Wednesday will range from near 80 to the mid 80's.
Thursday will see highs from near 90 to the low 90's for southern and eastern New Mexico, and the low 90's to the mid 90's in Southeastern New Mexico.
Friday will be a few degrees warmer.
By Saturday and Sunday, the southern deserts will have highs in the low to mid 90's, and southeastern New Mexico will be flirting with highs close to 100 degrees.
