Storm Summary 2-18-2026 - Round Two With More Snow/High Winds/Blowing Dust/Critically Dangerous Fire Weather Conditions Today!
January 30, 2026. Atoka, New Mexico. Waiting To Be Fed After The Storm. A large area of blowing dust originating in northern Mexico, southwest of El Paso, overspread southeastern New Mexico yesterday afternoon, partially obscuring the sky. Blowing sand from Whites Sands and blowing dust from southwestern New Mexico joined the mix. That sent everyone's allergies and sinus issues into overdrive. Visibility in the blowing dust dropped as low as 3/4 to 1 mile over southern New Mexico and 3-5 miles in southeastern New Mexico. Yesterday's peak wind gust winner was the San Augustin Raws located in Organ Pass along US Hwy 70, east of Las Cruces, with a peak wind gust measured at 98 mph. A gust to 72 mph was recorded at Carlsbad Caverns West Texas Mesonet Station, as well as in Pine Springs in the Guadalupe Mountains National Park.
