Most of southeastern New Mexico will warm up this afternoon into the low-mid 60's. Saturday will be a little warmer with the mid 60's to low 70's expected. Dry down slopping southwesterly winds gusting up to around 30-40 mph will help us warm up above normal tomorrow afternoon. A High Wind Watch has been posted for the Guadalupe Mountains for Saturday. Westerly winds are forecast to increase to sustained speeds of around 35-50 mph with gusts near 65 mph.

Colder air will overspread the local area on Sunday as a backdoor arctic cold front eases into eastern and southeastern New Mexico, and west Texas. Most of southeastern New Mexico should see high temps on Sunday only in the 30's and 40's. Low temperatures Sunday night into Monday morning will drop down into the teens.

Monday Looks To Be Coldest Day
Across SE New Mexico.

Valid @ 5 AM MST Monday, January 6, 2014.

With current forecast low temperatures expected to be in the teens Monday morning across southeastern New Mexico, this should produce wind chill values in the teens and single digits. We may see wind chill values a little colder than this but overall be thankful they won't be anywhere near as bad as areas to our north and northeast. Check out the forecast wind chill readings of -50F or colder across North Dakota, Minnesota, and Wisconsin.

Current forecasts have most of southeastern New Mexico in the 30's and 40's for highs on Monday. I think this may be a bit warm. I believe that many of us may not get out of the 30's on Monday. Monday nights lows are forecast again to be in the teens but I too suspect that we may see colder readings than this in a few spots. If the arctic airmass gets entrenched a little further to the west than current forecasts indicate then we may not get out of the 30's on Tuesday.

Coldest Weather In 20 Years Next Week
For Much Of The Hear Of The Nation?

For International Falls, Minnesota.

This Mornings 12Z/5 AM MST GFS 10-Day Forecast.
For Chicago, Illionios.

Coldest airmass in 20-years may be headed towards the heartland of America this weekend into next week. At least that is what a lot of meteorologists, forecasters, and weather geeks around the country are discussing. With temperatures forecast to drop down to -20F/-35F and colder, along with wind chills forecast to drop below -50F, this arctic airmass means business. Potentially deadly cold in fact! Blizzard Warnings, Winter Storm Watches, and Wind Chill Warnings are already in effect for parts of the northern U.S. Please visit the link below for the very latest from your local National Weather Service Office.
