Overall, this has been a rather lackluster monsoon so far this summer across the state. There have been pockets of above-normal rainfall across parts of the state, but many areas remain below their normal summer monsoonal totals so far. As is usually the case with summertime thunderstorms in New Mexico, we can and often do see huge variations in rainfall...see the maps attached below.
No drastic changes to our current pattern are anticipated over the next week to ten days. Scattered, hit-and-miss afternoon and evening t-storms are forecast over the state's mountains this week. Locally heavy rainfall and resultant localized flash flooding may be possible in a few isolated areas with the stronger storms.
The lower elevations of the state will continue to flirt with high temps in the 90s to near or slightly above 100, with Tuesday likely the hottest day of the week for many of us. Record heat is likely today and tomorrow across much of western and central New Mexico.
The southeastern plains are forecast to have highs near 105 today and 103 on Tuesday, with highs near 100 the rest of the week into next weekend. Our chances for rainfall over the next week are just about zero.
