Preliminary climate data reports indicate that 20 New Mexico Climate Stations have either tied their daily record high temps for the date, or exceeded them, 127 times (July 1st -18th). Preliminary reports indicate that the highest temperature recorded so far this month and summer has been the 110ºF at the Roswell Airport on the 11th, and the Carlsbad Airport on the 11th and 14th, and the Carlsbad Climate Co-Op Station on the 14th, and the 15th.

On July 5th, 6th, and 7th the Tucumcari Airport (KTCC) set a new all-time July monthly record of 107ºF. Only to be broken with a reading of 109ºF on the 10th.  The reading of 109ºF on July 10th, 2016 ties their all-time record high temp of 109ºF set on June 27, 2013.

The Tucumcari Climate Co-Op Station set a new monthly all-time record high temp of 108ºF on the 11th. The previous record was 107ºF set on July 21, 2011.

Given the strong upper level ridge of high pressure that has anchored itself over and near the state for the past two months, and the dryness of the atmosphere, 7 daily record low temperatures have been tied or broken in the state at 5 Climate Stations. The coldest daily record low temperature recorded so far (through the 18th of the month) occurred at the Aztec Ruins National Monument Climate Co-Op Station on the 15th with a reading of 41ºF
