A couple of isolated thunderstorms popped up near the Ruidoso area yesterday afternoon. The heaviest rainfall noted was .28" at the Ruidoso Climate Coop Station. Whispering Bluff Condos reported .27", and Ruidoso Mid-Town reported .08". The Smokey Bear Raws reported .01", as did the IRaws12 (Nogal). A few isolated to widely scattered thunderstorms are forecast to dot the Sacramento Mountains tomorrow into the weekend. Rain chances will not be all that great with Cloudcroft and Ruidoso areas have a 10% - 20% chance of getting wet.

Hot weather will continue to dominate our local weather story right on into the first of next week. Once again today our afternoon highs are forecast to top out around 105 today and tomorrow. Our afternoon highs are forecast to range from 100 - 103 for the rest of the week into the weekend. Its unlikely that the southeastern plains will see rain into the weekend.

Long-range computer forecast models are split on our forecast this weekend into the middle of next week. Some of them want to break the massive heat ridge down and allow a limited amount of monsoonal moisture to seep into the area. The rest of them keep the ridge firmly in control of our weather through the 4th of July. I have manged to accumulate .03" here at my home so far this month, which brings my yearly rainfall total to 4.68".

  1. My 2.45" of rain year-to-date is grim, but at least it has hit 100F only 1X and only 99F yesterday! I best keep looking up...
