12:56 PM MDT Wednesday, April 10th, 2019.
When I talk about those sudden drops in the visibility down to near zero during our dust storms this is a prime example of what I mean. I had just left the Gas Plant 18 miles west of Orla, Texas in northern Culberson County where I am employed when I snapped this photo. Our peak gust at the Plant was measured at 12:55 PM MDT/1:55 PM CDT form the southwest sustained at 43 mph with a peak gust to 66 mph.
1:06 PM MDT Wednesday, April 10th, 2019.
I drove about three miles down Farm Market Rd #652 when I pulled over and took this photo. Look closely and you can see a Texas Department of Public Safety Trooper (DPS) behind the Semi Tractor Trailer. At times I couldn't see any of the vehicles in front of me.
2:13 PM MDT Wednesday, April 10th, 2019.
This carport in south Carlsbad apparently was blown down by the high winds and notice the shingle damage to the roof of the building. Damage like this was reported to be fairly widespread especially in the Artesia area Wednesday.
Widespread Blowing Dust Wednesday Afternoon.
If you enlarge or zoom the picture in you can see that gypsum sand from White sands (white in color) is streaming northeastward across the Ruidoso and Roswell areas into the Texas Panhandle. Notice the color of the blowing dust originating in northern Mexico has a slight tanish tint to it compared with the blowing dust and sand in West Texas and the Panhandle area which is darker red in color. This is because of the different soil types being lofted into the air.
80 MPH Gusts Clocked In Seven Rivers!
A Davis Vantage Pro Personal Weather Station (PWS) located at the KOA Campground in Seven Rivers 17 miles north of Carlsbad clocked a peak wind gust of 80 mph twice Wednesday afternoon. Once at 2:30 PM MDT and again at 5:30 PM MDT.
Peak Wind Gusts Reported Wednesday.
