Excessive Rainfall Has Already Fallen - Flash Flooding Ongoing!

8-8-2021.
Artesia, NM.

With the abundant summer rains, the needle grass is the highest and thickest I've seen in years. Bad news come this fall, winter, and spring during our windy season. The fire danger locally will be through the roof because of this stuff. Especially when it piles high (6' or higher in some cases) against fences, buildings, etc.

Flash flooding is already ongoing along with parts of Southeastern New Mexico as of 11 AM MDT this Saturday morning. Flash Flood Watches continue in effect also. The threat for additional and more widespread flash flooding will continue today into Sunday.

Some rather nearly unbelievable 3-day rainfall totals have already been recorded. Including-

Radar has estimated 9.0" northwest of El Paso.
Southeast of Portales 6.0".
Parts of the El Paso area measuring 5.0" or more.
Widespread 2" to 4" over much of the local area especially the mountains.
Alamogordo picked up 3.50" in an hour this morning.

The Truth Is Stranger Than Fiction!
