No Relief For The Weary!
A weak cold front sagged southward into the Pecos Valley overnight. A cluster of thunderstorms moved from northwest to southeast into the Roswell area from around 9 PM until 1:30 am this morning. Radar and satellite estimated that perhaps up to 1.25" fell just southeast of the city, northeast of the airport. Moderate totals were recorded in town as noted by the PWS reports available online.
El Paso shattered its all-time monthly high temp Sunday afternoon with a reading of 112º. The previous record was established Saturday with 109º. Climate records were first started in El Paso in 1887.
Like a raging bull that won't quit charging, heatwave after heatwave continues to plague the area. No significant widespread relief is in sight at least in the 6-10 Day and 8-14 Day Outlooks. Hit and miss thunderstorms may occasionally show up especially over and near the mountains but overall we are stuck in this pattern. We may see an increase in thunderstorm and rain shower activity this weekend as a mid-level disturbance drifts north from Sonora, Mexico into southern and western New Mexico. This disturbance will be associated with Tropical Storm Eugene. Long term drought relief and heat relief is not going to happen anytime soon.
