Severe T-Storms -Heavy Rain/Flash Flooding Today & Saturday - Near Record Heat Next Week.
Artesia Tumble Weeds.
With the advent of our recent summer rains, the tumbleweed and needle grass pastures are faring very well in southeast New Mexico. So are the many different types of weeds in the state. Bad news for those who suffer from allergies this coming fall, winter, and spring. I'll still put up with them over the endless days of blowing dust we had this spring.
Scattered to numerous thunderstorms are forecast across parts of the state today into tomorrow before things calm down next week. Next week will be brutally hot in many areas, especially across the southern deserts and southeastern plains.
Severe thunderstorms will be possible in northeastern New Mexico today into this evening and again on Saturday. Burn scar flash flooding will once again torment the Ruidoso area. Flash flooding will also be possible in other areas of Lincoln County, across the northeastern and eastern plains, and parts of western New Mexico, including the San Augustine plains, today into this evening.
A Flood Watch is in effect for these areas through this evening.
An unusually strong upper-level ridge of high pressure will center itself over southeastern Arizona and southwestern New Mexico this weekend into the first of next week. By Tuesday, it will be directly overhead in central or south-central New Mexico, where it will wobble around for the rest of the week.
A few daily record high temps may be tied or broken next week as we dry out and bake underneath this massive dome of high pressure, which will stabilize the atmosphere and shut down most but not all thunderstorm activity.
Forecast highs across southeastern New Mexico will range from near 100 to near 107 Saturday and Sunday. And from the low 100s to near 108 all of next week. These temps will be very close to the daily records for the first week of August. Even temps in the Sacramento mountains will be near record-setting. Albuquerque will flirt with the century mark by next Wednesday and Thursday.
