A warming trend will continue today into Wednesday underneath an upper-level ridge of high pressure. Most of southeastern New Mexico will see our afternoon highs climb up into the upper 80's to near 90 this afternoon. Tuesday's highs are forecast to be in the mid 90's, and Wednesday's highs are forecast to range from near 90 to the low 90's.

Our next fall-like strong cold front will enter the local area Thursday afternoon and evening. Much cooler air will overspread the area behind this front Thursday night into Friday. Current forecasts indicate that we will see our daytime high temperatures fall from the 80's on Thursday, to at least the 70's on Friday.
Some locations may end up cooler than this with highs in the 60's across the southeastern plains. Cloudcroft and Ruidoso are expecting high temperatures on Friday only in the 50's and 60's. Strong northerly winds will likely accompany the frontal passage as well on Thrusday.
Showers and scattered thunderstorms will develop ahead of, and along the cold front Thursday afternoon. Some of these may persist well into the night. There are some indications in the models that a widespread general rain event may overspread the local area on Friday. If this happens our high temperatures may end up being cooler than what is currently being forecast.
