Little Change In Overall Thinking For Today!

Today and tomorrow are simply going to be a couple of very rough days for New Mexico Fire Weather-wise. Please click on the links below,or in the sidebars of this web page, for additional information concerning this potentially dangerous fire weather situation.

A High Wind Warning is in effect for the Guadalupe Mountains from noon today through 9 PM MDT this evening for westerly winds sustained at around 40 mph with gusts near 60 mph.

A Wind Advisory is in effect for southern New Mexico, Lincoln and Chaves Counties for southwesterly-westerly winds sustained at around 25-35 mph, with gusts of up to around 50-55 mph this afternoon.

Areas of blowing dust are also forecast to occur across southern New Mexico, and across the more dust prone locations in southeastern New Mexico this afternoon. This includes locations near freshly plowed or exposed farmland, open fields and lots, and construction sites. The visibility in these areas may drop down to less than 5 miles, and in some spots down to less than a mile with little to no advanced warning.

Red Flag Warnings are in effect for the entire state of New Mexico today. I can't stress enough how dangerous the fire weather conditions will become across southeastern New Mexico and nearby areas this afternoon.

Near record to record high temperatures of 106-109 are forecast for the area this afternoon. Combine the heat, the high winds, and the ongoing and seemingly never ending extreme drought conditions, and the potential for explosive fire development will be present across the area this afternoon. Any wild fire that should break out will have the potential to rapidly spread and grow in the high winds, and potentially threaten life and property! Please refrain from any type of outdoor activity that involves the use of sparks or flames today and tomorrow.

High Temps Yesterday - Lows This Morning.
