Dwindling Snow Pack Across SE NM Thursday.
Today Into The Weekend.
As we talked about yesterday, a cold front entered southeastern New Mexico overnight. Today and Saturday will be a little cooler than yesterday. High temps today are forecast to range from 40 in Roswell, to 42 in Artesia, 43 iin Hobbs, to 45 in Carlsbad.
High temps yesterday ranged from 59 at my home here in Carlsbad, to 55 at the Carlsbad and Hobbs Airports, 47 at the Artesia Airport, and 46 at the Roswell Airport.
Areas of low clouds, and Freezing Fog may develop over parts of SE NM tonight, especially over Chaves County. Areas of fog and drizzle may develop over Eddy and Lea Counties Saturday night. Warmer temperatures are anticipated for Sunday with highs mostly in the upper 40's to mid 50's expected. Monday will be even warmer with highs in the mid 50's to near 60.
Next Weeks Storm.
Valid At 5 AM MST Tue Dec 13, 2011.
Looking ahead to next week at our next potential winter storm to impact the state, the models are forecasting a deep closed mid-upper level low to park itself over the southern California region Sunday into about Tuesday. It should then open up, and drag itself across the state Wednesday into Thursday.
The usual timing differences continues with the models, the storm may be a little slower than what is currently being forecast. It does not appear at this time that this storm will have a deep arctic airmass to work with, so any precipitation we may get here in SE NM next week would likely be in the liquid form instead of the frozen type.
Right now it appears that the Sacramento and Capitan Mountains could receive another round of snow from this storm, with the heaviest snowfall totals falling roughly above 7,000'. Yet another strong winter storm may affect the state in about a week from now, with the potential that this second storm may be even a little colder than our mid-week storm.
The Truth Is Stranger Than Fiction!
